The Atlanta Braves have acquired starting pitcher Freddy Garcia from the Baltimore Orioles. The trade will not cost the Braves any players, Garcia was obtained for cash considerations.
Garcia, 36 will be sent to Triple-A Gwinnett and assume a spot in the starting rotation. This season Garcia was 3-5 in 11 appearances (10 starts) with a 5.77 ERA with the Orioles.
Garcia was sent down to the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides, in late June. Garcia made 13 starts for Norfolk and racked up an 8-3 record with a 2.84 ERA. Garcia struck out 61 batters in 82.1 innings for the Tides.
In acquiring Garcia, the Braves have brought in a very experienced pitcher as insurance. He has made 354 starts over 15 major league seasons.
With Beachy seeing Dr. Andrews due to continued elbow problems and Maholm shaky Wednesday night against St. Louis, this is a solid acquisition for the Braves.
