Braves Organization Showing Solid Depth
The Braves rallied to upend the Diamondbacks, sparked by two big pinch hits. Lane Adams lined a bases clearing double in the 6th, giving the Braves a 5-3 lead they would never relinquish. Then Jace Peterson blasted a 408-foot shot onto the Chop House roof in the eighth.
Adams and Peterson both need to celebrate their heroics well into the night. One or both will be back in AAA Gwinnett very soon. Danny Santana is close to returning from his rehab stint and Sean Rodriguez isn’t far behind.
What this means is the Braves have built depth that extends beyond their major league roster. Early in the season the bench was a liability, now there isn’t enough roster spots.
Atlanta has withstood injuries this season, most notably the Freddie Freeman wrist fracture. Fortunately the starting rotation hasn’t sustained significant injury. Even though the Braves have invested heavily in young pitching, beyond Sean Newcomb, the crop is not quite ready to be harvested.
It won’t be long, though. It is a great time to be a Braves fan.
