Maholm (3-1, 1.03) ) will square off Friday night against former Miami Marlin, Anibal Sanchez, in a match-up scheduled to start at 7:05 pm. and be broadcast on Fox Sports South. Sanchez is 2-1 this season with a 1.75 ERA. Maholm is 0-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers.
Medlen (1-2, 2.16) will be opposed Saturday by Rick Porcello (0-2, 11.08) in a 1:05 game broadcast on FOX, while Sunday’s 8:05 contest on ESPN will match up Mike Minor (3-1, 1.80) against Doug Fister (3-0, 2.00).
Medlen (1.20) and Minor (2.08) have the best ERAs in the major leagues since the 2012 All-Star game, and Maholm is fifth best at (2.45).
Maholm has gone the deepest into games of any Braves starter this season, averaging 6 2/3 innings with Medlen and Minor are right behind at 6 1/3. But Minor leads in quality starts with 4 of 4 while Maholm and Medlen are 3 of 4.
In this series the Braves will not face the the Tigers ace, Justin Verlander. Verlander pitched Thursday against the Royals and will make his next start Tuesday against the Twins.
