Changes in Braves Line-up vs Pirates

Uggla often starts slow and picks it up as the season progresses

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez has inserted two bench players into today’s starting line-up against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates will send left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez to the mound today.  Sanchez has a 12.96 ERA through two starts this season.  His last appearance was this past Tuesday night against the Cardinals when the game was called after 2 innings.  Sanchez gave up 2 runs in 2 innings.

Ramiro Pena will bat second and play second base in place of the usual starter, Dan Uggla.  Uggla strained a calf muscle in the cold Pittsburgh air last night and came out in the 4th inning.  He is listed as day-to-day.

Reed Johnson will take over in right field today for Jason Heyward and bat 6th.  The right-handed hitting Johnson has been very good against left-handed pitchers in his career with a .310 average and .366 on-base-percentage.

In the past four games the Braves offense has been shut out twice and only scored 1 run in the other loss.
