That’s what Wren did the last couple of years. If you really believe that last season’s strike out happy, sloppy, swing for the fence team could be in first place this year you need to change professions. Also try and remember why Hart is here and Wren is gone, it’s only been a few months for crying out loud. This year we have a team in rebuild under a manager that has a track record of not being able to finish. His haircut will be gone soon enough. Remember this is the Majors and winning is job one. Even while rebuilding you have to try to win games – wins matter – this isn’t the minors. There is no rule that says either/or. Bethancourt is hardly the Braves’ catcher of the future with his bat – he was just ahead of the others and he has a good arm. The Braves have catchers on the way up, if they don’t trade them away for arms. AJ is playing because, 1: He is a veteran who is there to handle the young pitching staff, and 2: He’s hitting this year and has contributed to several wins. Hart has the Braves ahead of the curve. When the season started the Braves needed three things (at least) – a power arm at the top of the rotation ( Miller may be that guy but he’s young and still a work in progress) – An RBI bat in the middle of the lineup (Freeman needs some help) – and veteran leadership. The aquisition of Uribe was a good move, and while not replacing Chipper or McCann, he has helped by solidifying third with a good bat and some veteran leadership – it’s time Freeman grew up and quit moping around when things aren’t going well – he’s no leader. If the Braves remain ahead of the curve the next couple of years then confidence is high that opening day in the new stadium will fill expectations. “Crap or get off the pot.” I don’t get that “logic” at all, nor do I approve of the vulgarism. Grow up and show a little class. There are still Braves fans who understand polite society. Then perhaps you don’t know any better.

Comment on Alex Wood Concerns? by Mike Crowe http://atlantabullpen.com/alex-wood-concerns/#comment-1486 Fri, 17 Apr 2015 05:25:00 +0000 http://atlantabullpen.com/?p=49617#comment-1486 On opening day I thought this team was one power arm in the rotation and one power hitter away from being competitive this year. The Braves can ill afford a problem with the top three rotation spots, as the bottom two look suspect at this point. Still, you really can’t campare Woods’ velocity from 2013 as a downer yet as he didn’t pitch that much, and last year he was better than his record showed while throwing 89mph. Also Wood is a guy that has to hit his spots and he’s only had two starts so far. He’s had his ups and downs, so I wouldn’t push the pannic button yet.

He does know what he is doing. This is exciting and we all know they will go through their ups and downs. This team has that spark they haven’t had in awhile. Heres hopes to cracking this years playoffs. Chop Chop!

The Yankees never traded Rivera. Yes, it’s great to be rid of Bad Joke Upton. However, the wrong sacrifice was made.

This is the most ignorant, senseless, uninformed article I’ve ever read here. Either tell me you are yet 20 years old, or this is just bait to draw comments and I will let it slide. Otherwise you should be covering curling and leave baseball to the adults.

Now you are seeing the cost of having inept Wren as the GM. This was predictable. So you had rather pay 40 plus million dollars for a one inning pitcher (and closers often have short careers) and keep Melvin’s stupid contract rather than free up the money, get rid of deadwood Upton and get a bevy of young talent in return? That would be stupid. I’ll miss watchng Kimbrel, but if you’re going to rebuild then rebuild and don’t fool around about it. Everything Hart has done has been brilliant and necessary considering the shape the Braves were in. All “Stupid” Hart has done is clean up the mess, brought back our minor league system from last to a top ten position, gotten rid of Upton and Uggla and gotten talent in return, brought in two proven closers in place of one, and likely cut our rally killing strikeouts in half by going from free swinging glory seeking idiots to contact hitters. If you’re a baseball fan then you had better have patience. Braves fans have been spoiled. Wren screwed up, so now it’s our turn to sit a couple years and watch a rebuild. Thankfully we have the right man at the helm with some guts to do it.
