Former Braves stud closer Craig Kimbrel is on the move again. The Padres traded Kimbrel to the Boston Red Sox for 4 players.
“With the history and the fans in Boston, the atmosphere is always awesome. It’s going to be a lot of fun, said Kimbrel.”
The Padres acquired four minor league prospects, outfielder Manuel Margot, shortstop Javier Guerra, infielder Carlos Asuaje and left-handed pitcher Logan Allen. None has played above the Double A level.
Kimbrel was 4-2 with a 2.58 ERA and 39 saves in 2015. He struck out 87 and walked only 22 in 59.1 innings. The former Brave finished 4th in the NL in saves.
Kimbrel mowed down National League hitters, it will be interesting to see how he does in the American League.
”Moving to the American league, I’m excited,” Kimbrel said in a conference call with reporters. ”It’s a league that has the big bats. And being a pitcher, you want a challenge of facing the big bats.”
