Braves second baseman Dan Uggla is not only hotter right now than Kate Upton, he is hotter than all the Uptons. In the past 6 games, Uggla has 11 hits in 24 at bats, 3 home runs, 2 triples, 5 RBI, and has scored 8 times. After having his batting average under .200 all season, Uggla is now hitting .209.
Justin Upton was the hottest of all Uptons for a while, but the way opponents have pitched around him lately, he hasn’t had the opportunity to do what he did in April.
Uggla got the Braves rolling against the Reds on Wednesday when he blasted a solo homer off Cincinnati starter, Mike Leake, in the fourth inning, and another one in the sixth. Those two runs were all Braves starter Mike Minor had to work with, after Minor left the game, the Braves put up 5 runs in the eighth, highlighted by Juan Francisco‘s grand slam.
We all saw what Uggla can do in the second half of the 2011, when he went on that 33-game hitting streak, and carried the Braves for a few months. If he Uggla can stay hot, what a shot in the arm it would be for the Braves.
Speaking of hot, how about Jordan Schafer? Schafer had 3 more hits on Wednesday, and is now hitting .310 on the season, and has a .452 on-base-percentage. He also leads the Braves in steals with 5.
With B.J. Upton continuing to struggle, could we see more of Schafer leading off and playing center field?
