Freeman may not play in the All-Star game

The Atlanta Braves pulled a surprise today, recalling Evan Gattis from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett and inserting him into the starting line-up.  Gattis was recalled to replace Freddie Freeman, who was injured in Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Gattis will play first base and bat clean-up, as the Braves try to finish out the weekend with a series win against the Reds.

In Saturday’s game, Freddie Freeman sprained his left thumb on a tag play at first base and is experiencing soreness which may keep him out of the All-Star game.

The Braves lost the first game of the series against the Reds Thursday night, but bounced back with wins Friday and Saturday night.

In his Triple-A rehab assignment, Gattis went 0 for 4 Friday night with two strikeouts, but bounced back Saturday evening with a double in four at bats.

The Braves will place a somewhat makeshift line-up on the field Sunday afternoon.  Here is the line-up:

1. Constanza LF
2. Simmons SS
3. C. Johnson 3B
4. Gattis 1B
5. Uggla 2B
6. R. Johnson CF
7. Laird C
8. Terdoslavich RF
9. Teheran P

OK….well……this should be, uh, “interesting”, if nothing else, with potential for exciting results. Got my fingers (and thumbs) crossed. Ouch! It would be an ironically cruel shame for Freddy, after all that near-supernatural effort, to miss the mid-Summer Classic! Hope it’s nothing very serious.
